Really gotta second this.
I came here thinking it would be my new blog where all my Good Complex Thoughts go.
I started a Media Thread, I started multiple "Of the day" tags, thinking that forcing an "obligation" to Blog more than just Quip would make me a better writer, and then as soon as my free time dried up I burned out on all of it.
Anyway, don't do that. Cohost is a nice place to shoot some thoughts into the breeze, and sometimes the deliberate limitations on engagement and virality etc do feel akin to yelling into a well. But once you do adjust your own expectations to it, it's a comfy place. Not perfect, and not a replacement of what we rapidly seem to be losing, but a different place.
Addendum: This isn't to say don't make effortposts. This is a good place to put them, so long as your goal isn't to get, like, super duper noticed by everyone. Just, there's space for both, and trying to limit yourself to a single mode just tires you out. So shitchost, share, comment, like, and generally hang out here and you'll do just fine.
Just 3 points of advice for new folks:
- post wantonly, but tag responsibly (tags are literally your only tool for discovery, and the only way some not following you can see a post you made without it being shared into their feed)
- comment and like freely, even on horny posts - no one can see likes but the person getting liked, and even they can choose to opt out if they want
