Been rewatching SplashStar ever since they announced Saki and Mai's return for Power of Hope and it's really hitting me how animist this show is now that I'm no longer 13 and actually have a bit of cultural knowledge to work off. Somehow missed all the theming all those years back, but it does mean I'm getting some more out of this watch-through.

SplashStar still is very cute though. Love the cast, the forward momentum brought about by the Kiryuus helps keep it fresh, and the explicit spiritual basis to their powers makes fight scenes super interesting. Hoping that Power of Hope convinces more people to watch it because I'm not personally acquainted with many people who have.

I avoided it for years because it looked like a slightly-off copy of the original, but when I finally did watch it turned out to be better in almost every way, and became my second favorite season after Heartcatch.

That's basically the Splash Star pipeline. Everyone assumes it's kinda just FwPC 3 and the low popularity and sales seems to back it up, but then they quickly realise it's a show that takes lessons from how the two FwPCs panned out and improves on a lot of stuff in them. Stellar anime. I would die for the Kiryuus.
