Unity blew all their good will into atoms, and now Epic is trying to make The Metaverse™ their main thing, and Godot is apparently not taking criticism well and not really accepting pull requests, so what's left? Are we going back to doing everything in-house or something? Should I do deep dives on engine programming, is that going to be a solid career move?

Where did you see that godot isn't accepting pull requests? Seems weird, all the most recent updates have been great, 4.2 coming in the next few weeks has some really good ones
Personal complaints from friends exploring it well before this recent drama. As for not taking criticism well, there was a recent writeup from someone newly switching over to it coming from a professional engine programmer angle. She received a lot of harassment both from the people managing Godot and the more active users of it.
She scrubbed all her social media of mentioning it because it got so bad, so I’d rather not draw more attention to her, but the writeup is still available and if you look up "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" on the Godot forums you might find the discussion.
thats really weird. I've had a mostly positive experience with Godot, it sucks that she got harrased. I wish I understood what happened, but I don't remember this being mentioned on either reddit or twitter?
It was mentioned on Reddit from what I heard- I heard it directly from the person in a Discord server, and she mentioned she scrubbed all her social media of any mention of Godot over it, so it possibly just got deleted
i went and brought up this incident in the godots developers chat, I hope you don't mind. If this is really what happened, I want a proper professional response from the Godot Devs

edit: also I just wanna say I don't think this response was amazing. IDK if the comments she made were ACTUALLY inaccurate or not, but idk. I would like it if they did like say on twitter to stop harrasing people
I like the idea of learning engine programming, regardless of what wins out you'll be better equipped to handle it.
I should pick up a book or two 🤔
