Something I've been getting into lately is the idea of alternate scripts for existing languages, whether that's for writing reform, for aesthetics, or for fun. In particular, I recently learned about the Shavian script for English, and I'm surprised at how quickly I learned it.

I don't particularly like the aesthetics of it, or the way it implements featural qualities (rotational symmetry is confusing in real-world situations of pencil on paper writing), but I do like how systematic and fundamentally simple it is to learn. It's definitely aimed more at writing than reading though, and I'd like something that balances both.

I might riff off some of its ideas for a little con-script project of my own, but for now, it's just a fun thing to play with. If anyone else is interested, someone made a site where you can learn it and install keyboards for it (including on mobile): https://shavian.info
