Arnebam sat with a new colleague, Professor Fleur, over lunch to discuss a recent finding regarding the potentiality of a new glyph to optimize power output on a Frame battery. Well, Fleur sat for lunch. Arnebam had a book politely folded over their lap as they talked.

"My theory," she began, "is that if you write the segments of a glyph in a particular way without disrupting the flow of your writing, it could alter the way the enchantment operates, potentially even improving the time it takes to reach maximum output."

The ears of Arnebam's mask perked up. "Hm... I hadn't considered that before. I think i'd rather like to run a test for that myself, if you hadn't already."

The professor was visibly excited to hear. "Excellent! I hadn't run any myself - ideal safety measures and all - but im glad you approve!"

The archlich seemed to smile beneath the mask and shrugged.
"Well, on a personal level, yes. I still need you to put this down in writing so I can get budgeting approved. But I feel like this ID opens more doors than just the scanners just being around my neck, so it shouldn't be much of a problem."

Fleur looked at the ID on reflex, and seemed puzzled at first. The image was of Arnebam, with little doubt... But standard procedure was for all facial coverings to be removed unless they held religious significance, and the followings of Luxus didn't have anything resembling that.

"... Hm?" Arnebam hummed, picking up on the confusion.

"... Ah- oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to stare. I just, didn't know top researchers had such relaxed dress code for their ID photos."

"Oh. Ooooh right, i had forgotten you were new with how much of a duck to water you had been here. The thing is, there was a complication when I started work here."

Fleur looked even more baffled. "I'm... afraid I don't follow. What kind of complication?"

Arnebam gave a hesitant hum and lifted up their mask. The sight of a bare white skull staring back at her made Fleur gasp as a brief bit of tension lingered in the air.

A deafening silence broken only by...

"... Yeah, I was so excited that I couldn't stop smiling for the photo shoot, soooo they just had me put this on instead. "

...

A smile crept up Fleur's face as she stifled a hearty laugh into her hand.

"Gods above, you were setting me up for that weren't you?"

"Was it that obvious?" They said with a snicker. "I'm sorry, I never get tired of that gag. Feels older than I am at times."
