This time of year i could dearly use some light

You had... Well. Not really a farm or a garden; nearly a fifth of the little earthen ball you lived on was covered in the things you grew beneath that lightless sky; you could walk around the entire world in time for dinner, if you left after breakfast. You often spent a few days going through your fields, a broad equatorial strip where every leaf and flower glowed with a warm light; the only cool hues were the flowers you planted along your main path, their soft blue colors making it sharp against the crimsons, oranges, and ambers of the rest. You grew fruit, and nuts, and every herb you could find, and selectively coaxed each generation toward that warm glow that you could all but feel radiating a gentle heat. Your more poleward neighbors freely acknowledged that your garden - which had paths laid for them to cross or just wander through and admire - was no doubt what held the roiling darkness of the Gloom at bay, a band of vegetation glowing like a warding bonfire flame against the eternal night.
