An adopted doll.

It was the oldest doll there when its witch came for it. Its documents were buried in a filing cabinet that hadn't been opened for several decades at least.

No one's quite sure why it was never disassembled. Probably because it was just too much effort - not to mention the thing took next to no effort to maintain.

Just sat in a corner all the time.

Its adoptive witch was browsing the others when she came across its room. Said aloud almost right then and there: that was the one she wanted.

It was as quiet as always when it was led out to meet her. Just as quiet when the forms were signed.

Its adoptive witch picked it up and carried it out the door.

Never looked back. Not once.

Not to say that it didn't come back, though. Not an unusual happening: not all dolls take well to their adoptive witches.

This one, though, it came back changed.

For how the thing acted back then, it was nearly unrecognizable.

There was light in its eyes, this time, a beaming smile on its face.

Never seen such a drastic change in a doll before.

Witch wasn't here to return it of course. Just here to adopt another doll.

Never heard it speak until then:

"This one can't wait to have a sibling!"
