Been making steady progress lately. Trying to finish up first-pass on all the writing. It's part of the process that always makes me uneasy. Partly that's a lack of confidence in my writing, partly that's an uncertainty if my work fits into expectations for the 'visual novel' genre. And partly it's the Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known. This one 'The Void in Greasewood Nevada' (working title) is pretty similar in tone and play as 'Moth Wing' with some added free- exploration bits.
Visually things have come a long way. Been focusing a lot on how grain and hatching can be used to convey scale and materials. It doesn't present extremely well in screenshots but it looks interesting in motion. The current look is what I had in mind when I started the project, a mix of a lot of different inspirations (Japanese block-prints, Maynard Dixon landscapes, magazine advertising of the 1990s...). It will still take a ton of dialing-in, I'm not sure how appealing it is and I may take the values and color in a more subtle direction.
