This was such a good read. I wish it were easier for the law to recognize family outside of strict blood ties, so that marriage/adoption/etc would not be necessary to have things taken care of. I hope stuff like this takes off, we need more awareness of platonic life partners and friendship-based families.

Yes. Loneliness in particular has such a huge toll on health that you would think it simply makes sense to support people to form the families they want to, whatever form or structure those take. And clearly that kind of movement is striking a chord with so many people because it's offering something that is badly needly.

really nice read!!! a lot of us online are big on our "found families" so hearing about people pushing for things like that to be officially recognized is really nice. The nuclear family model really did a number on peoples' expectations of what a "family" can be here in the US...
