This week the biggest changes are audio-related.

Which is to say I went from no sound to having sound. I wrote a couple music tracks this weekend and built a player for music and sfx. Each track is broken into two parts that can be layered. The idea is that the tracks build as you are walking or doing something. I don't usually like to wait this long to add sound but this is a small project and I'm replicating things I've done before.

I'm pleased with how responsive it feels. It's pretty subtle, my goal was that it adds to the experience and doesn't get in the way.

I also built the menus and did some cleanup on the system that sets the player's location. The options menu ended up being a pain, what with the loading and saving of settings and so on. But it's done and maybe I'll be able to use it in other projects going forward.

Lastly, I've been noodling with art and level design. I've been trying to fight the urge to over-complicate, to stay small and simple. I've been trying to think in terms of having one Main Idea per level (and writing it down in words). The layout and art should be in service of making that idea legible. As obvious as that sounds I still find myself getting lost fixing what lacked clear purpose to begin with.
