I thought it’d be fun to look back and share my favorite thing I made during each month of the last year. I’m really happy with a lot of the things I did, and maybe some of them will be new to people!
▸ January ◂
I released Heck Deck! My 3+ year long game project, the largest one I’ve worked on. It basically consumed my life for its entire development, and finishing and releasing it was a highlight of the year.torcado.com/heckdeck
▸ February ◂
I made a neat formula for numeric interpolation called torCurve. I use it literally every day. It’s invaluable to me for gamedev, it ends up being a replacement for the majority of timing/growth related functions I would otherwise write.desmos demo

▸ March ◂
Scritch! This is an audio player for embedding albums/etc. on a webpage, made especially for itch.io. Alongside the player is the Scritch Editor, which is a UI tool for setting up and customizing the player, and even modifying audio files.torcado.itch.io/scritch-editor
▸ April ◂
Chronis, my Ludum Dare 50 game. I’m particularly pleased with the visuals, it’s nothing extraordinary but it really feels like a mark of improvement, that something as visually simple made by me a couple years ago would feel significantly more amateurish. (not sure how best to describe this feeling!)torcado.itch.io/chronis
▸ May ◂
Wixle, a daily pixel art prompt generator. I wanted to get better at pixel art (especially in preparation for returning to Ghost Bird), so I made a tool to give me a prompt every day, which I stuck with for a little over a month. I’d like to get back into practicing again, maybe doing a piece once a week.torcado.com/wixle
here's a collage of all the pieces I did during that time:
▸ June ◂
SSSPICY!, my game for Kajam22 that won the 1st place $10,000 prize! I'm still in disbelief about this. Even without the prize I'd be happy with the game, but it’s allowing me to do what I enjoy without financial pressure for much longer than I planned, and I’m so grateful for that.torcado.itch.io/ssspicy
▸ July ◂
This isn’t really something I made, but I was interviewed for an 80lvl article about my work as a solo game developer. It feels really validating to have something like this exist, like I’m not just crazy and that other people really do find value in what I do and make :)▸ August ◂
I made a gamejam game with some friends called Cairn, it’s a mingleplayer Jump King-like game. I handled all the server-side stuff and some of the game programming. It’s the first real time I made a game as part of a team, and it was nice :)rubic.itch.io/cairn
▸ September ◂
I made Autoball, my Ludum Dare 51 game. Very happy with this one, I'd say it's one of my more fun LD entries.torcado.itch.io/autoball
▸ October ◂
I released the Heck Deck: Spells & Specters update. This essentially doubled the content in the game, I’m very happy with it. It also marks the conclusion of my work on Heck Deck, aside from minor fixes here and there.▸ November ◂
I made a fun About Me post for my Cohost page, (ab)using the limited CSS support the site offers. I always love flexing my CSS muscle, and I’m so pleased with how it looks.https://cohost.org/torcado/post/202720-div-id-root-div
▸ December ◂
I made an algorithm for rotating pixel art called clean4x, and then improved it with cleanEdge. Extremely happy with the results, I plan to use it for most of my pixel art games. I also made a web-based tool to rotate/scale sprites yourself!torcado.com/cleanEdge
And that's it! Looking forward to another year of fun projects and art :)
Thanks to everyone who keeps up with my stuff, sharing and commenting on it. It's incredibly motivating ❤️
