proto name: Dice Fortress.gif

A few days ago, my mind decided to hyperfocus on turning some design notes into an actual prototype. I tried to fight that urge —I was tired and had a lot of other things to do— but... it didn't go away. In the end, I decided to make it just so I could actually rest instead of thinking constantly about it.

I'm happy to tell you that it kind of worked! I made an interactive mock up, and now I feel much lighter. It also granted me with some hindsight about the software architecture of turn by turn games, and how I could leverage it for the data collection step of my PhD.

I'm glad to share that happy ending with you 😌
Prototype is named Dice Fortress. It's a "turn-by-turn dice-based strategy roguelite" in the likes of Slice & Dice/Dicey Dungeon/Slay the Spire, but simpler and based on placement synergies.

I'm curious: based on what you see on the GIF, can you guess what the main game mechanics are? I'll post my answer later.

*thanks to @mtrc for that title

wtf this is so clean for a mock-up/prototype! it looks great!

the placement mechanics are giving me loop hero vibes a little bit too - placing certain cards next to each other created fun little synergies that could be challenging and rewarding. guessing the main game mechanics is a little trickier - feels like it's about getting a good balance of attack damage, defensive buffs and health restore per round to defeat the boss?
