Had a lot of back-and-forths on twitter over the years with Stapleton about the purpose of reviews (in my defense, there was a hot minute there where some actual Critique was happening at the big outlets, and so cross-talk made a little more sense). Like his other opinions on them, I'd say his stance here is plainly untenable...but obviously only in the sense of its theoretical framework—IGN's still IGNing strong, and most other places are folded. All that is basically to say I agree with what you wrote!
