there are many people pushing for total (or, very large) internet decentralization. like the folks from mastodon.
and it’s good in theory, yeah, but you know why i prefer using centralized media? it can and will fail some day.
i, as well as my content, have a right to be forgotten, and a right’s meant to be exercised. i am glad that whenever something fails - everything (or most of what) i wrote and/or posted there will be gone. dust to dust, ashes to ashes, as some say.
not a fan of anything i post remaining for too long out there. some things might survive. but boy, if i would choose between seeing a massive cruise ship sink vs. watching one or two tiny boats in a massive fleet sink?
i’d definitely choose to watch the giant ship go down.
and if you care more than i do about your content - archive whatever you need locally. nobody is going to smash your self-owned storage space to pieces for profit.
