yes, Smart Speed works very well. feel free to try without paying, it's ad supported, but not like "here you go Google", Marco actually sells ad slots to podcasts himself, and keeps them topical, you see tech podcast ads when listening to tech podcasts, etc. it's pretty much as unobtrusive as possible of a ad-supported model. The subscription mostly turns off the ads, but also lets you upload your own files and pick a dark alternate icon.

yes and yes. probably the best watchOS podcast client, it also supports both downloads and streaming over cellular. (doesn't mean it's perfect, there's still limitations in the API, primarily around syncing podcasts to the Watch in the background, it's just inconsistent, but Marco does his best.)

I don't use the watch client myself, but I listen to him talk about it on his podcasts, I think he said that he had to make a mini game to play on the watch while the podcast transfers? because the app needs to be active on screen for 100% transfer reliability? I know there was background syncing at one point, maybe there still is, but it was just inconsistent enough that he added this as a fallback?

overcast is the best player in the game. the only reason i stopped was that i’ve been listening to so few podcasts lately, and the ones i do listen to are usually very well produced, so i don’t need the features as much and preferred to try out the defaults
