Making the superb hot take of creating a cyberpunk setting that doesn't buy into the United States collapsing

Russia’s got an even more extreme disparity in wealth (especially once you get out of Moscow proper), the level of oligarchy could make a Koch brother blush, PLUS you get the cultural backdrop of both a fiercely conservative culture clashing with the legacy of a failed attempt to build socialism

Bonus of the country in question being way more likely to collapse IRL

We've yet to figure out what specifically is going on with Russia tbh, the current setting is basically Cold War+ due to the supernatural bits, but it also means the Soviets are still around for better or worse, which I'm sure is the part we're more likely to get actual hate mail for. Even if it's set almost a century in the future and the timeline kind of irrevocably shifted all the way back in the 1960's so relation to current events is shaky at best

All good haha, we're in this weird space of wanting to think about grounding points and places in the world to work off, but at the same time, so much about what we're working with implies massive changes that it's hard to balance between having a grounding and just changing places until they're unrecognizable. Worldbuilding is hard it turns out
