i need to figure out how to set up some kinda thing on my server to play sounds (it’s a laptop).
here’s the plan: it’s an internal server like a socket or whatever, you can send a basic request to it with a sound ID, and that program would take that sound id, match it with an audio clip, and then play it via ALSA.
also i’d need to figure out how to get rtorrent to run custom scripts upon torrent completion. does anybody know how, it’s 3 am and i’m sure as hell not looking up the docs.
i think you're pretty much looking for good old mpd + the associated mpc client; mpd is like 50% music player backend for nerds, 50% music player for headless servers/jukebox things and somehow also 50% internet radio streamer thing
i guess it's a bit unusual to play sound effects with it but i can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work
