honestly, what are my uses for an apple watch?

well, first, there's advanced sleep tracking, because while my phone can track my time in bed, as in between the last thing i do before sleeping (putting my phone away) and the first thing i do after waking up (picking my phone up), i'd actually like to have it be accurate and have it tell me about my sleep stages. big fan of Data.

second, on-the-wrist notifications. while i'm working, i can't be bothered to check for a noise (or, rather, a flash, see footnote1) on the other side of my table, that distracts me from work. a light tap on the wrist is what i'd need to not focus away from work to look at The Glowing Brick, but just take a light glance if it's anything important.

third, exercise (i hate this spelling so much), because this is a thing i really want to focus on, because i've been neglecting it hard. a smart watch casually tracks your exercising habits through the day, helps me understand how much actually i'm being lazy, and overall provides me stats if i'm doing good, as long as i just wear it.

fourth, fancy time-telling, i guess. while a regular wrist watch can just show a 12h circle (and you have to buy a new one if you get tired of the same view), the customization possibilities on a smart watch range from very big to endless.

fifth, actually good alarms. i fucking hate noisy alarms, because they Pavlov the brain into connecting a certain noise to the morning stress and annoyance, or whatever you usually feel in the morning. a wrist tapping is good, and does not even wake up other people.

as i always say, the real downside is charging. while i can just take off my wrist watch at night and put it literally anywhere, then grab it again in the morning, it's a bit different with smart watches.

do you even know how many times i check weather every day? i'd like to immediately get information about this when i look at my wrist, instead of reaching for my phone and opening an app.

and there are only so much things you can fit on a screen.
there are only 4 widget slots on the iPhone lock screen.
i currently use a 2-tile world clock (with UTC, Moscow and Tokyo times), a 1-tile temperature graph and a 1-tile charge circle (might replace with something else later) for my main screen.2
as for my sleep-focus lockscreen, i have a 2-tile weather report, 1-tile sunrise time and 1-time charge circle (actually is pretty good at reminding me "charge the fucking phone" at a glance)3
yes i will infodump about my homescreens. average cortex listener pastime.
