@Sheri asked:

as someone who used apple products all the time as a kid for work and school, i don't much care for them; purely from the business side, which imo breaks into the physical. there's nothing morally wrong about using apple tech, obviously, im just curious how it got to be your manufacturer of preference?

good question! there are generally a few points why i prefer apple's products:

  • consistency: the UI and the design guidelines are very well streamlined, which means that across many native apps the experience is going to be pretty much consistent. sorry i spent like 3 minutes structuring that sentence, i'm eepy af.
  • lack of ads & bloatware: in comparison with a lot of the android market (looking at you, xiaomi) and windows - the iOS/macOS experience won't throw you in the middle of times square. you spend a bigger chunk of money once and you don't have money being frogboiled out of your soul over the years of usage.
  • privacy: they really are rock solid with their stance on privacy in their software and hardware. that shit is as secure as it gets in the general consumer market.
  • continuity: the way the ecosystem integrates with all the products is generally pleasant. not much to say here, most people already know this point.
  • design: i generally am an Enjoyer of apple's physical (and visual, mostly) design choices. that 2021 macbook pro refresh is the pinnacle of laptop body design. also this is about environmental care too. recyclable material and shit.
  • accessibility: one of the nicest points about using apple products is that they are much more accessible than their competitors. i'm genuinely amazed. still not over the fact that i can control my laptop using only my head movement and facial expressions and voice.

though it's not all sunshine and flowers, there are general issues too. sideloading, Questionable Software Design Choices, lack of third-party extensions for safari that don't involve putting your app on the app store or compiling a thing via xcode.

also: the only good ARM computers on the market. though i can't speak about that, since i haven't had first-hand experience using one, my opinion about them consists only from the things i've heard on the internet.

(this chost could've been better if it wasn't almost 2AM. also wow time machine is speeding up significantly right now)
