Talked previously about how I started on moving my website over from a WordPress install on my own hosting to Grav CMS (also on my own hosting) last year, but recent events with the Automattic / WordPress / Tumblr CEO had me stop dragging my feet and hit that EX Bail.

I've mostly been chronicling things on Mastodon, but this is real progress. It loads lightning fast, I've got my "megawall" of combined galleries back, and I've been able to set up sub-pages with sketchbook galleries. Everything caches so that when there are changes, the first load takes a few extra seconds and after that it loads almost instantly. Basically the first person who sees the page after changes (so probably me) causes it to cache, and anyone else who visits after that sees the cached version in a snap.

There's a LOT that still needs to happen under the hood before I take down the current site and replace it with this, including adjusting the layout and getting the blog back up and running which is probably gonna require manually re-creating each post, but the galleries have been the big holdup so far. Getting that done feels like taking the training weights off.

(Also, I want to go back as far as I can in terms of my art archive, but I lost a lot of archives between 2013 and 2018 due to a bad backup. I'm going to have to piece those together over time from backups of what I uploaded to other sites.)
