alright cat people i got five ish hours before i'm headed over to a friend's place for the first time in a few years, and they've got a cat now.

1 - how do you make a good first impression with a cat? (she is orange i do not know if this is a factor). like behavior, posture, etc

2 - how do you pet a cat? I know my dog method of petting is very much not it (pet literally anywhere besides the ears, and just keep moving)

Orange is a BIG factor. By and large, they are the himbos of the domestic cat world - not much going on in their noggin', but they are very sweet and affectionate.

I would recommend holding out your hand in a gentle fist for the cat to give you a good sniff. That way they'll register that you're a new person in the house.

As for petting, the head is a safe spot to pet, but the cat has to be okay with physical touch and/or strangers. The owners will usually inform you of anything you'll need to know regarding their cat's petting spots.

Have a great time!!
