Mark Mothersbaugh was born in Akron Ohio on May 5th, 1950
Attended Kent State University with future fellow bandmates Gerard Casale and Bob Lewis, who came up with the idea for Devolution of society after their friends Allison Krause and Jeffery Miller was killed in the Kent State Shootings, where Ohio State National Guardsmen killed four students during a peace rally opposing the Vietnam War. Motherbaugh was intrigued by this concept, and used his interest in post-structuralism (where one studies the object and the system of knowledge that produced this object)to build upon the idea further.
They started playing as Devo properly in 1973.
Their music has been featured in numerous video games: “Whip It” - Band Hero, Donkey Konga, Rock Band 3, Lips: I Love The 80s, DDR ULTRAMIX 3. “Uncontrollable Urge” - Rock Band 2, Tony Hawk’s Shred, “Girl U Want”- Fortnite, Rock Band DLC “Through Being Cool”- NBA 2K8, Rock Band DLC “Fresh”- Little Big Karting (most recent album, but that album slaps)
In 1989, Motherbaugh formed a music production company where he did a lot of composition work for:
