Cervine Songtime

Welcome to the Cervine Songtime, wherein I share a jam a day. (Might not actually be daily.) I really like music and talking about it! Expect: all sorts of things.

Safe and Sound - Capital Cities

Song

I normally don't watch music videos. Not for any particular reason! I just... don't. Perhaps if there is a reason, it's because I forget they exist, with a dash of: most of my daily listening doesn't have a music video at all (because it's a soundtrack or what-have-you). So it's unsurprising I went years and years loving this song without having seen the video.

When I did finally see it, I immediately cried. Something about the different cultures and times all dancing together really gets to me. I don't want to dwell too much on that point, though. Perhaps I'll explore it in a different post sometime.

This song is one of those that uses the right instruments and beep boops that activate dopamine release. I don't know why, but if you find anything with similar sounds I'll almost guaranteed latch on to it. By latch on to it, I mean listen to it on loop for 8 hours straight.

**Bonus track:** This excellent remix of the song.

Hey, I also really like music and want to start posting more about it at some point, I'm just still figuring out how best to approach it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you recommend!

I also don't usually watch videos, in fact I tend to go out of my way to avoid them. I feel like it distracts from the emotions inherent to the music itself, makes it harder for me to formulate my own feelings on it... most of the time. I can think of a few videos that add to the experience, though.

I've also liked this song since about the time it originally came out, and I like several of the other songs on the same album, even though the energy is pretty much the same and consequently can feel a little samey. But what hits me about it is that it's the kind of song that's emotionally hopeful while still feeling a little sad.

Here's a song I recently learned about that I spent most of the day thinking about: Saint Raymond's Right Way Round. It's a similar feeling to me, maybe it will be the same for you.

Ah, hello!

Before anything, I want to say I'm very touched you left this comment and shared music back at me! I'm delighted. Thank you!

Speaking of videos... I definitely agree they can be a distraction, but I really like the one in your shared song. I love animation and its simplicity really works well, I feel.

I can be pretty picky sometimes with music, despite my immensely broad spectrum of genres I enjoy, so sometimes recommendations are hit or miss. This isn't a miss and I quite enjoy it. I think I see what you mean about the sadness--perhaps slight melancholy--shared by both songs... Though I admit Safe and Sound touches more on something else for me. Which isn't to deny that there's a sadness, there definitely is, but it's both a happiness and sadness that brings me comfort. That things will be OK. On a kind of cosmic-spiritual scale? I can't really elaborate without accidentally writing an essay.

Lastly, you should definitely post about music more if you want to! Go for it! 💛🎵
