You will never guess where to find my art account! Hahahaha! My security is impenetrable! (it's @PlasmaRing)
Really the entire point of me doing a Twine layout that incorporated mouseover tooltips was that it's very easy for me to get lost/overwhelmed when there are lots of hypertext asides even though I love to read them, and I was thinking about how to work with that. I like that tooltips give the effect--you have to recognize that the interactive element is there and choose to interact with it--without taking you entirely off the page. My POV character (Batman) was also someone who tends to have a lot of thoughts Going On At Once and stuff he's compartmentalized so I liked the idea that following a link in the text was a bigger commitment--either to think more deeply about something or to follow a train of thought far away from its origin and into potentially weird territory.
anyway i'm actually writing the Thoughts On Mastodon post for real. already at 1k words and 6 footnotes and i'm not even out of the introduction. might be a bit until it's done.
some of the footnotes would work better as Asides so i'm genuinely considering writing an article theme that lets me use them that way.
100% agree with this, I love putting marginalia in shit I write and would love to provide some better way of formatting it on here
e.g. the electronic version of "host" by david foster wallace is an essential web text to me
nicky case's nutshell is also something I've been thinking a lot about recently
