I think the biggest problem with Animal Crossing is that they make you play as a weird looking human instead of a cool looking animal

Exactly!!! I know in New Leaf & New Horizons you can get a couple animal hoods that help make you look like an animal villager (I always have the cat hood for NL & the sheep hood for NH on my character), so that's about as close as you can get to being an animal villager!
