Sorry, I have a gripe about my convention experience this weekend. I only sold one Robin & Cat book. And that was to a friend. And while I absolutely appreciate my friend buying a copy to gift to someone (love to hear that), I was deeply disappointed that I couldn’t find my queer community at the show.
Previous years, I could find queer teens who were looking for cute, happy stories like Robin & Cat. I’m sure my table location this time was a big factor. I wasn’t in Artist Alley, I was with guest artists. And not in an easy to reach spot.
It’s still disheartening, though. No one even flipped through Robin & Cat at the show. Combine that with everything I’m dealing with with Tumblr, and it’s like the comic doesn’t have a home base. The comic and I were thrown into space, grasping for any stable ground.
I had to get that off my chest. Comics are hard, folks. Finding your community in comics is even harder. And after a decade, it doesn’t get any easier. But it sure does make me appreciate any bit of support I’ve got.
