"Just stop using YouTube instead of waging an ad blocker blocker war and use other services"

Okay. What services? Peertube? A network with an amount of traffic that is a rounding error compared to YouTube's and has no monetization strategy?

Nebula? The video streaming service that is invite only and which sources new talent to invite specifically from YouTube? The service that has set up a model where it is dependent on YouTube and can only really survive if YT is thriving?

Vimeo? The site that has sent creators of popular videos bills of thousands of dollars for "taking up too much bandwidth?"

Which video streaming service is viable for new and unknown video makers building an audience and established ones who do it for a living and everyone in between? You can't answer that question because no such service currently exists

Lord save me from guys who go "suffering from X? simply do Y, a thing that cannot actually be done, instead!"

Obviously going back to transferring low quality RealPlayer videos with DCC via random IRC channels.

Other possibilities include alt.binaries newsgroups or random FTP sites. /s

More seriously, I think YouTube's ability to cater to video creators of all levels is a bit of an unreproducible fluke, because it was only possible because Google already had effective monopolies in ads and search and was willing to use them, and that Google was also willing to let YouTube run at a loss for years in order to drive adoption and become yet another effective monopoly.

I guess the alternative is ... stop using user generated videos completely. Just consume commercial stuff. Or move out to the woods and live off the land, assuming that's even possible anymore on this planet.

the one time utube broke my ad blocker for like a whole day i just used invidious instances for that day . i didnt really lose anything of value in doing this

for phone i use newpipe and on tablet i use firefox with ublock origin (which just works like its basically a flawless experience)
