this is just engaging on my asshole tendencies but this makes me smile
Seeing this kind of post on bluesky.

Of people getting so fucking mad that furries have the GALL to be visible in the platform.

And that thinking that OH THE ALGORITHM IS SHOWING ME THEM TO ME PLEASE FIX

like no, that is not how it works
the algo is really just showing what others are liking
lmao
and furries are HEAVY fuckin users

"What's hot" and feed discovery are driven literally by post activity, not by customized for the user.

And they could fix this with just a little bit of curation. There are mute lists. I am in like 20 of them.
They could be using just FOLLOWING feeds

But nope. They are mad. Because furries are interconnected. And active.

I wonder if I will stop enjoying this kind of post.
Feeding my inner asshole.

in reply to @Loosf's post:

but you see they do not want to curate their experience, they think that exposure to others who are making EXTREMELY heavy use of the platform should be "opt-in"

hmmm yes funny that

It's not enough that they just change the channel away from the show they do not like, they want the show they don't like taken off the air entirely because they don't like that other people are allowed to like it.

that said, I also get a little pleasure on being honestly kinda passive aggressive about it.
"Don't like it? Stop using the popularity feeds and only stay with your curated following timelines"

Yeah

Yeah funny how it's that

There were some "why are there so many queers in this platform, where are the reactionary tech posters that I want to engage with"

And this is basically the same thing

They want spaces where queer people are not visible

As someone who exclusively uses the following feed there it’s extremely funny to see people actually use the What’s Hot and other algo feeds lol

You can just not use the algo feeds! Bluesky sucks for a lot of reasons but at least it lets you easily switch between different feeds! Lmao

Yeah I legit cannot really see a point on mainly using the "popular posts" feeds, other than like, seeing what is trending at the moment.

I personally prefer to see what the people I am following are posting. It makes no sense to me to mainly depend on the algo feeds!

And

honestly? The customized feed system is pretty neat, do appreciate that bluesky has that flexibility in feed curation.

Yeah I'll admit it's probably one of the few things I can hand it to them, being able to have multiple feeds is neat. I'm miffed about them presenting it as "a marketplace of algorithms" as if it's a solution to The Problem With Algorithms but they're tech-libertarians, what are you gonna do lol

seeing them slowly figuring out why other sites have privacy, moderation, and curation features has been hilarious and sad.

Like you can tell they are idealists with regards of FREEZE PEACH and "The open marketplace of ideas"

But also so idelogically opposed to human moderation that they defer to the machine because the machine is right because the machine is right.

Queer people scream at transphobe, oh, hey, blocking is a thing now.
Furries post and sheathblast everyone because the automated tagger was trained on cishet porn, and oh hey now there is manual tagging of things.

Fucking hilarious.

If they ever get to the point of federation, it is gonna be a fucking shitshow

If they ever get to the point of federation, it is gonna be a fucking shitshow

Yep, YEP. I'd argue it already is a shitshow because they're already taking shit actions moderation-wise, like, saying you want to take your own life is against the guidelines but harassing someone is fine and will get you a slap on the wrist??

But yeah I have very little faith in Bluesky's model because it's Twitter But We Don't Want Any Responsibilities and I feel like barely anybody in the userbase wants to reckon with that and it's driving me insane so I'm just watching from afar and dreading the day it opens up wildly and something terrible happens.

I'm constantly torn between "feed curation is a skill and some people just want to crash at the end of the day" and "for fuck's sake people just follow things you like."

and that is the thing! They thought that the what's hot or discover feeds would be curated automagically from their follows, rather than, uh, what is popular right now in the site.

Lol.
