I'm thinking about a story shared with me where a CEO of a gaming company demanded to remove tutorials from their soon-to-be-released game because Egoraptor said "tutorial bad."

Just imagining the possible scenario:

CEO, after calling a 7:00 AM all-hands meeting at 10:44 PM the night before: We have to remove tutorials from our game. I watched an indepth analysis and it said that games teach better when there's no tutorials.

Literally anyone below C-level: Oh! They're an accomplished game designer then?

CEO: ??? Probably?

Arin hits this horrible middle ground where he's actually pretty insightful for a non-designer, but is also a huge weirdo (like most people who are into design stuff, if I am gonna be honest >.>), but IS ALSO HUGELY POPULAR like god the amount of brain rot he accidentally caused by just having an audience that outstripped the soundness of his opinions 😭

Not that anyone should be listening to my opinions either but like thank god I don't have millions of followers lol

Honestly I think that's the most insightful way to explain Arin. He has great points, but yeah, popularity has a weird way of making folks strip down shared thoughts to the barest, simplest forms as their takeaway. 😭

But I'm gonna listen to your opinions and make a 40 minute video on them watch out world.

IIRC he never intended for Sequelitis to be taken seriously, but because he does have some valid points and cool observations, people ran with it. There's a GG episode where he was lamenting that people didn't understand that when it came to the Ocarina of Time video.

I've always seen them as funny internet videos, but I guess anyone with a following like him has those fans that would take his views too seriously.

The most I can say is that I obliquely reference his take on Mega Man level design from that episode and nothing else because once I realized that he straight up ignores instructions and then complains that the game didn't tell him things later....

Having good instincts and insights is great but it will only carry you so far.
