i think what really, honestly drives me insane about the Gaylor thing, in particular, is that there are so many actually queer artists out there that you could actually give your time, attention, and money to. But, like reading queerness into Disney and Marvel, they don't want to step outside of that comfort zone and actually look for real queerness in the world.
And also, all these entities are so incredibly wealthy that they could easily withstand the hit of actually doing queerness, but don't. Disney is ultimately a hilariously conservative company so until you can fuck your husband in the ass in public without repercussions, you're not seeing real queerness from them. But Taylor Swift could just come out and be like "Yeah, i'm gay" and conservatives would piss and moan and then... nothing would happen. She would still be an insanely popular star and she would still rack in gobs and gobs of money. I guarantee many of those conservatives would still buy and listen to her music and go to her shows because of course they would. I know that I'm mostly preaching to the choir here but it's one of those things that every time I brush up against this weird parasocial conspiracy theory bullshit, I lose my mind like, she doesn't know you and she 'cares' about you in that she wants you to buy her album. That's it.
