bold aesthetics with incomprehensible narratives and fantastic music is certainly one genre (nier and death stranding) tryhard games is another (touhou and celeste) and stardew valley and animal crossing and such for a third. lotta stuff really

ah, the three genres. personally i’ll always recommend dragon quest 11 bc it’s just straight up one of my fav games ever, but it isn’t really in any of those genres. it’s more like a chill saturday morning cartoon with really old school (but not in a bad way) jrpg elements. probably haven’t enjoyed a jrpg in like 20 years and then dq11 came along and knocked me on my ass
