the cool thing about mech pilots, i think, is depending on where you're going from they can be so many things
though personally what often comes to mind is a helicopter story-like thing about co-option and such? but i gather that's not usually what people are doing

i love your explanation here and definitely relate to the transgender autistic recluse of it all and yet! mech pilot stories and characters don’t do it for me in the ways it so clearly does for others (the replies and engagements on this post alone), which again is great i think because not everything is for everyone even if there are lots of common denominators in identities and experiences
