i find it really suspect when commentary channels claim to be 'apolitical' yet their body oyf work is mostly about incels, racism, feminism, etc. A lot of right wing propaganda is served through people who aren’t openly conservative: "Why I left the Left" kind of people, the "apolitical", the "centrist", the "devout individualist" etc.

It makes me suspicious that maybe being upfront about the nature of their channels would alienate the part of their audience that is not explicitly identified with the right but who is still open to listening to their ideas. There is a large audience of people who are open to conservative talking points through people that claim to not be conservative. (the Pim Tool strategy)

The idea of there being a place outside politics is only possible for people who can take the basic structure and ideology of society for granted and not be inherently threatened by it. It's not possible to be queer and apolitical, for example. Our sexuality and gender identities make living honestly impossible if things stay as they are.

The idea inherent in "apolitical" is a poison of the mind laced in all kinds of media, in the structure and content of K-12 education, it's everywhere. It's the ideology equivalent of the drug used on Miranda in Serenity, which made everyone just lie down and die where they were, placidly. Except for a few who became cannibal rapist rage zombies. The idea that a system as violent and constantly threatening as that of the USA and other imperial core nations is a neutral baseline and that there is no alternative is, again, poisonous. And has much the same effect: to pacify most people even unto death, and to radicalize a small few in a toxic way. Then there's another small few like the crew of the Serenity who are radicalized the other way, to fight the imperial system.

Deception and information control are so baked into our everyday lives that it's hard to even question them. At every turn we're offered things we need but laced with soul poison. And sifting it out is exhausting.
