the fact that this chost is showing up on your feed is a SIGN. can YOU go find (ooh, ooh, ooh) Triforce?
for real though. i first discovered this song through BS The Legend of Zelda, probably the best known of the Nintendo Satellaview's eclectic software lineup. i'm sure you all know the tale of the St. GIGA satellite radio service and the Nintendo partnership that pushed away the Tide of Sound, and if you don't... well, better-learned people than i have way more to say on the subject than i could bother to remember.
anyways, BS Zelda! one of those broadcast reliant real-time "SoundLink" titles that relied on both the Super Famicom for the actual game itself and the radio for music and game-relevant tined narration. it's sort of a Legend of Zelda Abridged, where instead of the brave hero Link you play as your BS-X avatar broadcast by satellite into the land of Hyrule, tasked with tracking down the Triforce and defeating Ganon across four days, broadcast sequentially on a weekly basis. the world map is compressed into a cute 8x8 and slowly unfurls over real time instead of simply being open from the start, leading to a markedly different feel as you start your first day sealed in southeast Hyrule, blocked off from access to all but the week's two dungeons by way of a bush you need to burn using a candle the shops only begin selling on the second. the dungeons, too, are mostly simpler, in order to compensate for your hourly allotted playtime each week, which is nice.
a variety of real-time events occur across the four-hour-exactly runtime of BS Zelda. you are guided by the old man in the first cave, who frequently chimes in to cast a magic spell to aid you wherever you are in some way - sometimes, you'll be granted a limited amount of extra power to your arsenal, other times all enemies on screen will die or freeze up, occasionally the merchants will be temporarily swayed to offer incredibly generous discounts. occasionally, this help is in the form of clearing the way to advance - freeing the Forest of Maze Lost Woods from its curse for those who don't know the way, clearing away the (dodgeable, but tough!) sandstorm on the screen after, or wiping away the whirlpools blocking off the piers.
other times, limited-time items will be available - a Heart Container or two are found this way. the Red Ring, the Magic Sword and the Silver Arrows are of special note, since they're all extremely important and exclusively available on a limited-time basis - when you're told of them, you need to GO. and sometimes, events just Happen, like the fairies being temporarily scared from their lakes or a potion salesman appearing in front of one of the levels, or screens with unrevealed secrets playing a unique jingle for a limited time to indicate that there is something there.
and where's Ganon in all this? why, he's at the one place nobody thought to check: in the starting cave, tucked away behind the old man. an absolutely incredible twist, i think. 10/10.
... oh fuck Toy Music: Dancing SMB. right. uh this is the last song played before the game ends on every week! the "Go Find... ooh, ooh, ooh, Triforce!" is the perfect note to end a session on.
anyway, i recommend going and playing BS Zelda for yourself! you can find all the necessary files on the BS Zelda Homepage (the link for which i am blanking on but you should be able to just google it), and for the FULL EXPERIENCE i recommend going for the MSU-1 patch and getting an MSU-1 compatible emulator to play it. it's only exactly four hours in hour long chunks, and the fandub is charming in its way. if you're still antsy on emulation for some reason, i believe Kiddo Cabbusses has uploaded fully subbed recordings of playthroughs dating way back to BS Zelda's actual airings. check those out.
