My method in long, arduous undertakings is two-fold.
First, I draw inspiration from hellenistic stoic philosophy: I start with the assumption that, one way or another, I will make it to the end of the journey. With that point in the future pinned, there is no longer a question of whether I'll make it; only how I will. Memory and motivation become irrelevant to my progress, as I rely on structure and routine. Since the past has been freed from being load-bearing, my memories turn to times of comfort and love, both past and future. Every sorrow is but a gap between joys; every long, dark path has a light at its conclusion. Peace is to be found in seeing the whole path at once, and realizing that every step of it must be walked, because walking the path is what I must do.
Second, I complain the entire time.
