was talking with some buds the other day about social media (as everyone more or less has been doing in recent weeks) and in the scope of gamedev, it really makes me miss forums. a lot of things make me miss forums but the one-big-consolidated-feed just doesn't work well enough for sharing WIPs and garnering feedback from other devs imo. tigsource wasn't perfect either but i think it was certainly better than #ScreenshotSaturday or #indiedev or whatever the hell people tried to do since. the shift to "hope my gif gets retweeted" sucks

Forums will always be my favorite form of online "town square". Chat is fine for banter and social media is useful to scream into the void or passively receive updates about varied random stuff now that blogs are dead, but for prety much anything else forum is the way to go.
