It's really excellent work, well done!! Those hinges are remarkable, what a cool move to change the material partway through. Splendid!
I'm kind of jealous - I make boxes all the time at my job, but only out of sheet material, and I'm severely limited to materials that can be bonded by solvents and made with the basic tools we have at the shop. No access to a printer. Something like this is so out of my reach, haha.
I should clarify I'm not the author of the STL, since it's only obvious when clicking the link! (I thought I made it more clear in the text but I revised the sentence that made it obvious haha. edited the post now to clarify)
Ah, I see! In that case thank you anyway for showing us the cool design. I really need to either convince the company to buy me a printer or just grit my teeth and buy my own, haha.
this feels like the sort of thing that will become more common once multi-filament printers become cheap enough to be widely accessible to anyone who wants to 3D print. I could see that becoming a reality in the not too distant future.
yeah but i mean this model is a straight up "swap filaments once" job, done early in the print, it's as simple as it gets, i do this all the time for color changes
if you pick temperature / flow settings that work for boths there's no screwing around with the settings at the junction either
