Sorry I can't hear you over pipewire working perfectly ever time and never causing me issues at all :-)
I must be blessed because I've never had audio issues with whatever Linux flavor I felt like using, ever. Prime example of survivorship bias right here (me)
Maybe OSS didn't get it right, nor did ALSA, nor did Jack, nor did PulseAudio, but now we've got PipeWire and it's definitely perfect.
the mars 2020 rover had a whole subsystem for recording video and audio during entry, descent, and landing
that subsystem ran on linux
guess which part it didn't record
we do not talk about the Pulse but i think pipewire is the closest we ever got to a good sound system
hey i remember Bare ALSA Times and they were worse, relatively speaking linux is in its golden age of audio now
oh god i'm so sorry, but also just because things used to be worse doesn't mean we should continue to suffer
leaps out of a coffin cackling like the fucking Cryptkeeper OSS!
tbqh Bare ALSA times were perfectly fine once dmix became available/the default
fun fact: the guy who made pulseaudio sucks. like, for reasons other than having made pulseaudio too. if you wanna punch him you gotta get in line
