I figured out what makes Odin bind you. If you get hit by one of the charged attacks you instantly get bound. Even if you perfect blocked it. It's so simple and I feel really silly I never noticed it. You can avoid having to deal with the reprisal mechanic by avoiding the charged attacks all together.

First, happy birthday! Second, this was a great read! I only got around to beating full power Odin for the first time a few days ago with a full party, but I thought he was a cool fight. A boss that will instantly kill you if you aren't fighting in an entertaining/thrilling way is a really fun idea and I think they executed it well.

Also in big agreement that a lot of people are quick to call something bugged if they don't immediately grasp it. I've felt a bit crazy at times with Rebirth in particular because I've been seeing a good amount of grousing about how so many different segments/minigames/fights in this game are bullshit and I truly do not know what they are talking about. Not even in a smug "get good" way, just... I'd play through a few chapters then go read forums online and see a bunch of people complaining about what seemed to be completely normal video game things.

The amount of complaints I've seen about Rufus' fight is wild considering he has the exact same gimmick as in Remake but with a few new moves added in. And I don't buy the reason being because he comes right after Rude and Elena because his fight is constantly giving you time to throw elixirs on yourself.

They did tweak Rufus slightly. Now he reloads whenever he feels safe to do so even if he still has bullets in his chamber. In Remake he would only ever reload after firing all his shots (or guns akimbo which empties his gun). Now you have to kinda trick him into having to reload next to you and that's a bit more challenging. I like it though. Once you knew what to do in his Remake fight, it was trivial to stagger him and annihilate him with a single limit break. He actually puts up a fight this time.
