the concept of respecting a players time is very funny considering gamers don't deserve respect

one time I was playing MTG against a player using a combo deck. The guy started his five minute long combo and I just said "scoop." He kept going with his combo. I kept saying "scoop." He eventually finished his combo and said, "so unless you have a response I think that's game."

I should also note that he was playing with a deck that cost $250 for a format called pauper.

the only game that i truly felt like "did not respect my time" (in those words) was Wolfenstein 3D, but that game came from such a different time in terms of how games were produced and played that i don't know if it matters what i think about it, lmao

i also said the same thing about Rise of the Triad at first, but i ended up loving that game to bits. i did end up playing every single level of it lol

trying to reconcile this has given me such severe cognitive dissonance, as I make things with an ideal platonic Player in mind who is somewhat patient and understanding, but would prefer they did not have to waste their time on this mortal coil with pointless busywork. they look to me from the realms of nonexistence, gently pleading but too polite to say anything, and i nod and say “i understand”

then i am exposed to steam reviews and the illusion is pushed further into the abstract. i think i am just thinking of an amalgamate. friends who might want to play my games at this point, because the truth of Gamer is too much to bear
