Maybe you’ll enjoy this delightful segment from the early 00’s1 PBS edutainment show Between the Lions, known as Little Wendy Tales.

[text description of video: parody of sailor moon where a girl and her cat transform and do magical girl poses to change the punctuation of a book she's reading, shouting out each change that needs to be made in sequence, in order to change the meaning of some sentences that help out the book's protagonist]

I remember seeing this in 2002 when it aired and being bewildered, having never even heard the word “anime” before but having seen just enough Sailor Moon to understand what was going on. In retrospect, it’s pretty faithful, from the art style to the general vibe; definitely one of the better attempts from that era at parodying something from anime. Also teaches you punctuation, which is good, because I’ve seen the way you type 😏

I only ever saw this one, but I’m learning just now that there were two more of these. Thanks, Between the Lions Fandom Wikia. (fuck fandom wikia but honestly God Bless whoever is out there maintaining a between the lions wiki, you’re doing the Lord’s work)

  1. ok, apparently this show continued running until 2010, but i wouldn’t know.
