Shareware experience of the past: Oh hey this shareware is pretty cool and solves my issue. I'm gonna pay the $15 for a lifetime long license to get access to the full set of optional but cool features.
Shareware experience of the now: This app that's basically a containerized web page possibly does what I need, but most of the features are disabled and there are injected ads. I better sign up for the developer's patreon and pay them a monthly fee to disable the ads and get access to the features that may do what I need. But first I need to get on their discord and politely message them and then wait for three days for them to get around to activating my account.
because eventually the stuff you'll get is "motherboard CMOS setup with smtp client that can read your NTFS drives and email your files to someone" and that eventually will be in 2018
