Moodboard for an imaginary game

In January 2023 every day I made a room with a robot in it, and maybe wrote a little program for the robot in the room. This was also mixed in with rules, lore and rechosted inspirations. Nowadays this is just posts that evoke a particular feeling. Probably like 80% rechosts from @randochrontendo

For the last 30 days I’ve been posting a sort of serial improvisation about robots and architecture to this Cohost page.

Whatever this continues as will likely involve real computer programs of some kind, and may need some bake time before it's posted on the internet, so I’m not planning to continue daily updates here. I'll still be messing around on Cohost as @joeatwork, though.

In the mean time, here are some of my favorite bits from January:

A teenage nerd helps his crush pretend to be a musical computer program to win an Internet recording contract. Charming performances from Oscar Mathdaniel and Geena DeColdes, a quaint, pre-millennium approach to the Internet, and a fun upbeat Europop soundtrack don't quite save this update of The Mechanical Marvel (1959). Prominently featured would-be Christmas single "Electric Santa" didn't manage to knock the Spice Girls out of number one that year, either. Despite its flaws, the movie is a fun time capsule for the contemporary viewer.

Big Jimothy

He transcends four-dimensional spacetime, but no one transcends his eight-dimensional superslam!

Big Jimothy calls in to the Labyrinth Presents The Telephone Wrestling Championship Belt Series and Smackdown Royale from a higher dimensional ultraspace beyond the labyrinth. Jimothy's hyperdimensional form does not conform to linear time, and thus it can simultaneously be both Jim and Timothy. However, since telephone calls are a one-dimensional medium, Big Jimothy's unique relationship with space and time does not appear to confer much of an advantage during telephone wrestling matches.

Big Jimothy can invite up to six additional participants into his calls if callers provide the appropriate bids, in addition to itself and the robot initiating the call. Jimothy does not provide any special communications routing, multiplexing, or collision management features, so calls with more than two participants will require protocols designed for multi-participant environments.

Psychedelic thriller. A man begins to suspect that he is a robot, programmed to play out a particular scenario again and again, each time in slightly different circumstances. Not quite smart enough to achieve its ambitions, but if you can look past the pretension there are plenty of interesting visual effects and an exciting climactic chase sequence that make this movie worth a look.
