Minidisc Adventures: trying to record Human After All to one of the very sexy sony premium discs and fucking it up numerous times, but hey!! ive never used a minidisc before!

it sounds basically like a cd or really clean mp3 does. i think i notice a weeeeeeee bit of difference with some tracks, but the DP tracks are super clean on it, at least.

I love this for you, I used to have a walkman when I was a kid. Currently I am doing my best to dig my heels with modern technology by still using an iPhone 5S and an iPod Nano. Can't believe big tech convinced everyone that buttons were evil :c

Yeah with modern tech it's convenience before everything else. But everything has a wee lithium ion battery inside that will inevitably be shot after a few years of constant use. No practical way to replace the batteries in earbuds.

The 5s is a solid wee beautiful phone. Never had one, but it always was a nice phone. I got a 13 mini in 2021 and only switched to an s24 this year because the battery was getting a bit bad on it, and I was needing to take a battery with me in order to get thru a day of work. But maybe in a couple years I'll turn it into a modern ipod touch.

I have a number of iPod classics, easy to open up and fix, currently enamored by a monochrome 4th gen, but I've got a modded 7th, and 2 5th gens. All but one of the 5ths I fished out of scrap at work.

What hurts as well is that it isn't really convenience either, not really. Products now come with "Convenience ™" and it has meant that the connection between us and technology is getting more and more obscured. Take airpods. Airpods are Convenient ™, because who wants wires, huh? Wires, ugh don't they just tangle all the time? Let's get rid of them so you don't need to worry about them!*
*You will now have to worry about charging them, keeping the charger safe, keeping them charged, not overcharging them, not undercharging them, keeping them updated, keeping them synced But wired earphones? You plug 'em and in and you're good to go!

I love my lil Nano 7th Gen, she's so brave, with a courageous 16gb of space for nothing but podcasts and Elbow albums. And don't get me started on the beautiful intersection of frutiger aero and skeuomorphic UI that made everything just look better.

She is also the reason why my iPhone is just a phone now. Texts, calls, occassionaly email, and that's it.

Yeah. I'm only in my mid 20s but I'm already like "man tech back when I was a kid was more satisfying." Everything is a tablet these days.

I love my cheap audio technica bt buds, but I'm actually just considering a pair of overears, cause people at work keep thinking I can hear them, when I obviously can't, lmao.

I actually started this job using an iPod and iems, bùth switched ri bt buds cause i do manual handling, and the wire was getting caught on pc cases, even tho it was just wrapped up in my shirt pocket.

I have a pair of m20x from audio technica I use at home. They're bt phones, but 98% of the time, I use them with a wire. May be placebo, but I feel they sound better with a cable.

I take it you've replaced the battery in the 5s in all these years?

Hehe, god I used to have a pair of Bose in-ear earphones. Sound quality was amazing, and they never fell out of my ear because of silicone hooks that shaped to your ear shape (normal earphones always fell out). Never treated them right because I'd disconnect them by pulling on the cable. Went through so many pairs, and now they're all wireless and boy do I feel regret at not looking after them because they would've lasted. Wires just work better hehe.

Oh no, my iPhone is as stock as they come. The battery she has is something. Somedays she goes for a few hours, other days she just keeps trucking. But now all of my audio entertainment is on my iPod, she gets to relax a bit, save some battery for calls and all that.
