so forever ago i found out about tarot through alejandro jodorowsky and picked up a marseille deck according to his recommendation. a couple years later, im actually starting to learn about tarot and a few things have come to my attention:

  1. marseilles is extremely clunky for beginners and seemingly in general compared to rider-waite or thoth

  2. jodorowsky's book on it is almost universally disrecommended

  3. the general reputation of marseilles owners is elitist snobs who own the deck just to feel superior

and yet even knowing all this, for some reason, i cannot bring myself to part with the damn thing. even when i feel like a fool for buying it without knowing what i was getting into. even though i really wish i was learning with some other deck.

i think it comes down to equal parts not wanting to swallow my pride and accept that i made a mistake, and the emotional attachment to the excitement and wonder i felt at getting my first tarot deck. maybe it's something to ask the cards about?
