I vaguely remember transferring a young tree from a large pot into the ground, but other than that, not as far as I can remember. It sounds like the kind of thing most people get to do in school or something for arbor day, and I don't think I did it during that period. And I guess the opportunity just hasn't arisen since then. I would have to obtain seeds, and then go somewhere fairly remote to find a clear area that isn't mowed regularly.

I think I would try it, if I could. Given the symbolism of it as a sort of life-affirming act, I think it could be comforting, maybe even healing to a degree. I had a sincere anti-natalist phase as a very depressed teenager, and I'm not sure if my hang-ups from that time ever really got resolved so much as metamorphosed into a different set of hang-ups around childbearing and being a trans woman. I think getting to play matron deity to a plant that will outlive me might do something for that.
