I personally love my Synology NAS but it’s definitely not the cheapest option. A thumb drive on a router with a network port is pretty simple for music but not a lot of routers have them anymore.
For anything public facing I’d just spend $6/m for a digital ocean server and save yourself the privacy/maintenance hassle (I was trying to self host a wiki but it was just a huge nightmare over a hosted solution). Or put it on an Itch page.
