Hello Cohost!
I have started to create my own game and I want to present it to you!
Since cohost is closing i will make a long post to explain everything instead of teasing it through WIP Wednesdays as I did on other platforms, so you get 3 weeks of advance from the rest of the world!
The game is called Fadunn:
A rich patron is organizing an expedition to the deepest chambers of an old mansion to retrieve a precious artifact. This mansion belonged to an old and paranoid alchemist who has locked every door in a way that only another skilled alchemist can unlock. The team need you, The Alchemist, to unlock them and allow the expedition to proceed!
Get the full explanation under the cut! (with images and schemas, and even a gif of the current progress at the end!)
I have started it a few weeks ago, and I should have a first playable prototype before the end of the month.
It's puzzle game, inspired in part by Shapez, where you create assembly lines of pipes and alembics to modify and combine basic shapes to create a new, more complex shape. The game will be composed of several small rooms with a specific shape to create to open the door to the next room, occasionally needing to move shapes from one room to the other to solve more complex challenges.
The shapes will look like this :
Each shape is made of 12 parts, each part can be either a "flower", a "star", an "hexagon", or empty.
The theme of the game will be Alchemy, so the exact shapes and colors might change a little and will be called "Mercury", "Sulfur" and "Salt", but for game design and readability purposes it will probably look a bit like this.
The alembics will allow to modify shapes, I went for a "chemistry" feel, where you need 2 shapes to create a reaction, cut, combine, exchange parts. I have decided on 4 alembics, to mimic the 4 major operations of alchemy: Nigredo, Albedo, Ctrinits and Rubedo :
Nigredo: Shape A is cut in 2 parts, using the empty parts of shape B as a guide
Albedo: The parts of shape B are added to shape A, replacing them if there's already one in A. Any discarded parts of A ends up in the byproduct
Citrinitas: Create two entirely new shape by reordering the inner and outer rings of shapes A and B. this allows parts to move between inner and outer places.
Rubedo: replace the parts of A with B without adding to A, this time the byproduct contains the unused parts of B.
There will also be simple rotation pipes to turn the shape as needed.
It creates something like this :
So far all the pipes and alembics have been programmed! Look at this!
It's not playable yet, most of the actions happens in the debug command output still. But it's all working and testable! I'm hard at work to make it actually playable and accessible as soon as possible, and with actual graphics soon!
It's my first time programming a game, I'm very proud and very excited. I hope I got you excited to, especially if you like puzzle games!
I will post regularly about it on most of my social media ( https://linkstack.lgbt/@tootkin ), and I would be beyond grateful if you can support me on kofi to help this project happen! ( https://ko-fi.com/tootkin )
Don't hesitate to ask any question you have in the comments, and/or to tell me what you think about it! I would love to know what you think =)
