i don't normally care too much about ui updates, but god damn. discord's new ui reminds me of when my old employer forced my team to cut versions with multiple severe bugs open after firing / relocating the whole qa team. in just a few days i've encountered these bugs:
- boots way slower
- theme still not loaded once the app is booted, despite it having one of those "please wait while react boots" images that's supposed to cover up the jank
- everything displays "channel is read-only", including DMs, for at least a second, every time i open the app
- sometimes the scrolling gets confused and scrolls down in opposition to you scrolling up
- back button behavior is not necessarily broken but wildly different
- still haven't fixed the longstanding bug where rotating my phone and back fucks up the calculated width on everything
- doubles notifications sometimes
- only happened once so far, but totally wrong channel displayed compared to the one i had selected
it's wild how you can see bad management and the profit motive slowly corrode perfectly functional software over time. 99% of self respecting programmers would never release something in this state; it's all outside pressure forcing action NOW even if it fucks everything up.
