it should be illegal for huge companies to not reply to a job application. like, you are absolutely not starved of resources for people that could send a form email that just says "application rejected, try again in 6 months"
in other news, still looking for work :c
they do it because of spam applications by bots (it is not that difficult to clog a target mailer network if it has some sort of auto-response like this, even accidentally), if you get a silent rejection there's a good chance you really just got autorejected before a human saw it
that makes pragmatic sense from the point of view of an understaffed/underfunded hiring department, but i think we all still deserve better
